Snow day in Edmonton today but a few days ago the winter did finally gave us a bit of a break. And am I glad.
My mood is often defined by the amount of time I spend outdoors. Before, I moved to San Francisco, I relied heavily on vacations to get this fix. I would put my head down and just work work work up to every vacation plans I had. And if there were no trips in the works… god help anyone who had to deal with me.
When I moved to San Francisco, I had to make an active effort to get to know the city. Moving to a new place though, it seemed like the natural thing to do. Get out there, check out new café’s, restaurants, places to hang out, local events, parks etc. San Francisco is a hot bed of activity and every area has a niche and identity. It was so fun going through this experience with my now ‘forever friends’ SF crew that I did my Masters with. It obviously resulted in a much happier me! The happy moods stayed longer and I was seldom ‘down’ (only when I got home sick and love sick and… literally sick).
When I moved back to Edmonton with a job opportunity, I thought you know- I was really starting to like this new version of me… this Mannat’s Mode of being happy. How can I make sure this sticks moving back home?
And then the bell rang! Its not where you are, its what you do. I have mentioned this in my previous blog post, please read: https://www.mannatsmode.com/blog/mannatsmodexmarqueenoir
In an effort to continue down this path, I now keep track of the local events and festivals! Please look at the below ways to stay in the loop! (List courtesy: Christina Mah, it pays to have cool friends)
Some cool sites to follow for the happenings in Edmonton are:
Explore Edmonton (https://exploreedmonton.com/event-calendar)
Yeg Date (http://yeg.date)
Edmonton Journal (http://www.edmontonjournal.com/entertainment/whats-on/index.html)
Some other cool ways to track and explore local love: social media accounts (instagram + twitter) of all of the above and stay tuned to our local radio stations: Hot 107, Virgin Radio and Kiss FM on your drives to and from work.
I discovered the new Funicular open in Edmonton through those links above or the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald Instagram page (I don’t remember which one it was). Anyway! It’s a great little local attraction to check out. Its got long hours of operation (look at the images) and is a fun, family friendly activity! I stopped by there before I made my way to dinner plans in Downtown Edmonton for some amazing river valley views!
Love and Light,
