MANNAT'S MODE || FAIRMONT HOTEL MACDONALD || LOUNGE
Here I am! Back again to show you more of my Fairmont/ Self-Care weekend.
A huge part of self-care for me is doing more of what I love. You know what they say, ‘find what you love, and let it consume you’. And although that may seem like an unrealistic/ idealistic quote… you can at least identify what you love, and make time for it?
Nothing, if you don’t nurture it will ever result in a positive outcome. It is almost like, you are inhibiting things from elevating you and reaching your full potential. I am for sure guilty of that. I always had ideas in my head on what my life could be, what I could be spending my time doing, and how that would result in greater satisfaction. And then one day, as I saw people around me pursuing their passions actively, I realized the only barrier preventing me from living the life I want is me. So once and for all. I quit procrastination and adopted initiative. And let me tell you, I am the first to admit it makes for a busy life. Pursuing your passions doesn’t mean its all fun and games. It requires planning, sacrifice and hard work. Not to mention: barely anytime to Netflix and chill.
A woman who is a source of inspiration for me is Arianna Huffington, the founder and creator of the Huffington Post. If you haven’t already – I encourage you to read about her. She is the most empowering voice of reason for women and people in recent times. She is my go-to for pick me up reads! An article I recently came across was, ‘ how women can go from surviving to thriving’. So many things in that article resonated with me. Particularly in the deadline driven environments we work in, women tend to burnout under stress, on a consistent basis. There is so much focus on productivity, whereas, the reality is that we are not machines- whose sole purpose is to be productive. We are human beings and actually need the downtime to recover, refresh and replenish.
I have noticed that when my life gets too demanding or stressful, I tend to lose focus and express myself through dramatic overreactions on trivial matters. Once I became aware of this sequence of events, I decided that it was necessary to actively engage in and invest time on self-care practices, which include, pausing every night just to just about how much I have to be grateful for and how far I have come (check my Instagram-stories for my Goodnight Gratitude exercise and this post: https://www.mannatsmode.com/blog/goodnight-gratitude. Its high time women started making time for what is necessary for them to live a more enriched and balanced life.
A huge part of that comes from the company you keep. You are who you surround yourself with. Its imperative that people who surround you in the professional and personal realms, be aware of what is important to you, in order to have healthy relationships. However, you are the ‘master of your destiny’ and you must take the initiative to put your needs first before discussing this as a pain point with your peers, bosses, parents or husbands/boyfriends. Let us not forget, that even when a plane is going down, the direction is to secure your own oxygen mask first before assisting others.
As I continued with my Fairmont Hotel Macdonald staycation, I decided to dedicate a good part of my time to my self-care passion: this website. Thankfully the confederation lounge had inspiring natural lighting (yes I thrive off the sun), great wifi connectivity (to actually connect to my passions virtually) and a choice of comfy spots to park myself in for a few hours. I am pouring my heart and soul into this melting pot of my dreams, combining my love for writing, partnerships, branding, communication, digital content creation, inspirational life lessons, lifestyle and fashion and more.
Mannat’s Mode is my outlet for expressing myself and to get creative satisfaction. I hope I can pick up on themes that are relevant to you, so that it becomes a place to grab an easy read, find the next dress you want to buy, pick the next place you want to go hang out and be inspired to pursue your passions. All the elements in your life that make up your existence are tweakable… so take charge of your personal gratification meter. We are all a work in progress. And I promise to share the good and the bad (maybe the ugly too? We’ll see…) along the way.
Love and Light,
